    I never really plan for special candies, but it is more that if I notice i can make one then i will try to make one.

    I recommend always going against the suggested moves. I find that there will always be a better move to make, and even if it is still a match of 3 there will be moves that can benefit you in the long run.

    I find that I always start levels out playing random and then once patterns begin to form I plan my moves out more carefully. So kind of a combination of both, and not strictly one or the other
