Man Shoots Dog Over Candy Crush Game Interruption
A Canadian man was found guilty on Thursday March 20, for shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog. In a Saskatoon courtroom, the judge determined that the popular game, Candy Crush, was one of the reasons this man shot the dog. Eugene Krawchuk is the man being charged with this heinous crime.
According to the testimonies, Bentley entered Eugene’s yard after climbing a snow bank that led into the field where the horses were enclosed. While playing Candy Crush, Eugene’s wife informed him that the dog was in their pasture and to put the dog down. Price followed the dog and pleaded with Eugene not to shoot the dog, but was ignored.
Eugene had claimed that he thought the St. Bernard puppy, Bentley, was attacking his horse and livestock. However, the judge believes that he shot the dog because it had interrupted his game of Candy Crush. Lianne Price, the 16-year old who owned the dog was devastated by this crime that occurred on April 11th 2013.
Judge Marty Irwin did not find that Eugene’s reasoning that the dog was trespassing and attacking livestock was significant enough to shoot the dog. Irwin believed that there had been previous tensions between the Krawchuk’s family and Price family, giving him the intention to shoot and kill the dog. Judge Irwin stated:
“I believe he had the sole intent of shooting the dog, I do not believe that he carefully went into the pasture and assessed the situation and then decided he had no other alternative.”
To make things worse, Price did not have a firearms license. Ultimately, Eugene was found guilty and sentenced to 12 months probation. Although happy with the outcome, the Price family told CTV News:
“I don’t think they know how much they’ve destroyed our family. There’s been a lot of tears”.
