Gaming Companies That Released Large IPO’s

Zynga is the gaming company behind the hit game “Farmville”. On December 16, 2011 they released their IPO priced at $10 per share. The IPO valued the company at $7 billion. The IPO ended up raising almost $1 billion for the company. In 2010, Zynga’s profit was a little more than $90.6 million. Like Candy Crush, they generate revenue through boosters and advertising. Currently, Zynga’s shares are worth around $4.50, down over 50%. The company also cut nearly 15% of its staff since issuing their IPO.

The major video game console company, Atari, began production in 1984. Atari had popular consoles such as Atari Lynx and Atari Jaguar. They released their IPO in December of 1995. The IPO valued their company at $140 million. However, innovation led to their demise and they have been acquired.

Midway Games began in 2009 as a video game publisher and developer. They had hit games that many of us know like “Ms. Pac-Man”, “Mortal Kombat”, “NFL Blitz” and many more. In October of 1996, they released their IPO valuing it at $102 million. In the end, the company sold most of their assets to Time Warner.

Bam! Entertainment:

The video game publisher, Bam! Entertainment, entered the video game scene in 1999. The company partnered with Cartoon Network and created many games based around their different television series. The filed for an IPO in 2001, which was valued at $46 million. In 2004, they removed their stock from NASDAQ and have not made any new products since.

Maxis:

commons.wikipedia.org Maxis is an independent video game developer that was founded in 1987. They created some of the most popular video games “The Sims”. The company filed for an IPO in May of 1995. The value of the IPO was $48 million. However, they could not create games that gained the same popularity. Eventually, they were acquired by Electronic Arts.
