Candy Crush Special Candies Guide and Tips

In Candy Crush, special candies are everything. Making normal, everyday matches will only get you so far. If you want to really excel, you need to invest your time into making and using special candies. You can create a special candy in Candy Crush when you make certain candy combinations. There are three special candies you can earn in game: a striped candy, a wrapped candy and a sprinkled/freckled candy (known colloquially as the “color bomb”). In this guide, we’ll give you tips on how to form these special candies and how to combine special candies into special candy combos to help you make some epic moves!

Special Candies:

Making a special candy does not set it off immediately. After each special candy is formed, it can be “activated” — this means that you can use the candy in a move and it will activate the candy’s special properties, i.e. you could have two purple candies and use a purple striped candy to activate it. Only activate special candies when you are sure it will have the biggest impact. Special candies are all about how you use them.

Striped candy

• Formed by combining 4 regular candies of the same color in a row. The striped candy will be the color of the combined regular candies.


• Earns you 120 points when formed
• A striped candy will: clear a row or column on your board.
  • If the stripes on your striped candy go up and down (|| or vertically), it will clear the row of candies it is in.
  • If the stripes on your striped candy go side to side (= or horizontally), it will clear the column of candies it is in.

How to make a striped candy

• Formed by combining 5 regular candies of the same color in an L (three by two) or T formation. The wrapped candy will be the color of the combined regular candies.
• Earns you 200 points when formed
• A wrapped candy will: explode twice, each time clear the surrounding 8 candies and earn you 540 points

Color bomb

How to make a color bomb

• Formed by combining five regular candies of the same color in a row.
• A color bomb earns you 200 points when formed
• A color bomb will zap every candy of a certain color off the board
  • Keep in mind: unlike a wrapped candy of a striped candy, a color bomb is automatically activated once you swipe it, even if it doesn’t align with three candies of the same color.
